Troops of the Nigerian Army’s 1 Division under Operation FANSAN YANMA have arrested two suspected vandals accused of damaging electricity infrastructure in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
Security sources said the suspects were apprehended at about 12:45 p.m. on Friday by troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Alheri during a routine patrol along a railway corridor in the area.
The troops reportedly intercepted the suspects at Ungwan Tuta village while they were allegedly vandalising electrical cables belonging to power installations serving nearby communities.
Several electrical cables believed to have been cut from the installations were recovered from the suspects during the operation.
According to the sources, the suspects were immediately taken into custody while the recovered materials were secured by the troops.
The suspects, along with the recovered cables, were later handed over to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Authorities have continued to warn that vandalism of electricity facilities and other public infrastructure disrupts essential services, undermines economic activities and poses risks to public safety.
Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to security agencies to help prevent sabotage of public utilities and national assets.
