A fire outbreak on Saturday night destroyed more than 10 shops at the popular Terminus Market in Jos, Plateau State.
The blaze reportedly started around 10 p.m., sending thick smoke into the night sky as flames spread through parts of the busy market, damaging several shops and goods.
An eyewitness, Silas Lawrenzo, said the prompt response of firefighters and emergency teams prevented the situation from escalating into a larger disaster.
According to him, the quick intervention helped contain the fire before it could spread across other sections of the market.
Emergency responders from the National Emergency Management Agency, Plateau State Emergency Management Agency, Federal Fire Service, and the Plateau State Fire Service battled the flames and eventually brought the situation under control.
No casualties were recorded in the incident.
However, a visit to the market on Sunday morning revealed that several shops and goods were badly affected by the fire.
The cause of the blaze had not been confirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Efforts to reach the General Manager of Jos Main Market, Mangnan Yusuf Wamyil, for comments were unsuccessful as his phone line could not be reached.
The incident occurred just days after another fire outbreak last Tuesday gutted parts of the Plateau State College of Health Technology in the Zawan community, Jos South Local Government Area, destroying the medical laboratory section and leaving students distressed.
