The Yobe State Government has directed the temporary suspension of operations of all recreational centres across the state ahead of the 2026 Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns.
The directive was contained in an official statement on Tuesday, issued by the Office of the Special Adviser on Security Affairs to the Governor.
According to the statement, large gatherings typically associated with festive periods pose potential security risks, especially given the current situation in the state. Authorities noted that Eid-el-Fitr celebrations often attract large crowds, particularly among youths, which may not be advisable at this time.
The Special Adviser on Security Matters, Dahiru Abdulsalam, said all owners of recreational facilities have been instructed to shut down operations from Thursday, March 19 to Monday, March 23, 2026.
He added that security agencies, including commanding officers across the state’s 17 local government areas, have been directed to ensure full compliance with the order.
The government appealed for cooperation from stakeholders, stressing that the measure is aimed at maintaining public safety during the festive period.
Residents were urged to adhere strictly to the directive as part of collective efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.
