The Lagos State Government has apprehended 17 individuals for engaging in illegal activities on pedestrian bridges along the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrests in a statement on his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday.
He said the enforcement exercise took place between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m., covering the stretch from Ladipo Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Terminal to the Pleasure BRT Terminal.

Wahab explained that the suspects were arrested for constituting a public nuisance and engaging in acts that posed risks to the safety and security of commuters who rely on the pedestrian bridges for safe crossing.
“Seventeen miscreants were arrested on pedestrian bridges within that corridor for constituting public nuisance and engaging in activities that compromise the safety and security of commuters,” he stated.
He stressed that pedestrian bridges are essential public infrastructure designed to protect residents, cautioning against converting them into hubs for extortion, harassment, or other criminal activities.
“We will not tolerate any individual or group turning public assets into spaces for harassment, extortion, or criminal behaviour,” Wahab warned.
According to him, the arrested persons will be processed in line with the law.
The state government reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public infrastructure and ensuring a clean, orderly, and safe environment across Lagos.
