The Tanimu Turaki-led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed confidence that the Supreme Court would resolve the lingering leadership crisis bewildering the opposition party.
This comes after the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognised the faction of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday, March 30, 2026.
Those listed on INEC’s website include Abdulrahman Mohammed as National Chairman and Samuel Anyanwu as National Secretary, alongside other members of the PDP national leadership.

Speaking on the development via a statement, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, assured party members and supporters that legal steps had been taken to resolve the leadership dispute, adding that appeals and related applications had already been filed before the Supreme Court.
Ememobong described the convention organised by the faction backed by Wike as illegal, saying it was held in defiance of ongoing court proceedings.
He stated: “For the avoidance of doubt, we state that the pre-Easter jamboree of APC sympathisers and members of ‘Wike’s Autocratic Party’, which they mischievously tagged a PDP convention, was held in contempt of the Court of Appeal, where parties had entered appearances and agreed with the Court on the way to proceed with the matter, only to turn around and undertake acts capable of destroying the res.

“Furthermore, they were served with the processes of the appeal at the Supreme Court, as well as other suits challenging the holding of the said convention. The validity of that gathering is now a matter before the court, which we will diligently follow to its conclusion.”
The PDP spokesperson also criticised a judgement delivered by the Federal High Court Abuja, presided over by Justice Abdulmalik, which granted the Wike-backed faction access to the party’s national secretariat and directed security agencies to provide protection.
Ememobong said the party had instructed its lawyers to immediately appeal the ruling and file necessary applications to challenge the judgment.
Ememobong further alleged that the crisis facing the opposition was orchestrated by the administration of President Bola Tinubu, accusing the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to weaken alternative political platforms and impose a one-party system.
He, however, urged PDP members and Nigerians to remain hopeful, expressing confidence that the Supreme Court would uphold democratic principles and resolve the dispute in the interest of multi-party democracy.
