The operatives of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) have taken former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai into custody in Abuja, raising concerns over the status of his administrative bail.

The development followed El-Rufai’s appearance at the Federal High Court in Kaduna, where his bail application was scheduled for hearing on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.

However, proceedings were adjourned to April 1, 2026, after the prosecution informed the court that it had just filed its counter-affidavit.

El-Rufai’s legal team and family members said they were not informed of his destination after he was taken into custody.

The former governor had earlier been granted administrative bail last Friday following the death of his mother.

He subsequently hosted Fidau prayers in Abuja before returning to Kaduna for Tuesday’s court proceedings.

The latest development has sparked fears that the administrative bail may have been revoked.

Earlier on Tuesday, the former minister had also appeared before the Kaduna State High Court, where the absence of the second defendant stalled proceedings. The court adjourned the matter to April 10, 2026.
