The University of Jos and the Nigerian military have dismissed as false a viral social media report alleging chaos, destruction, and insecurity on campus, describing it as a deliberate attempt to spread panic.
The report, which circulated alongside an image purportedly showing violence within the institution, claimed that student grievances had escalated into unrest. Checks by THE STAR and confirmation from university authorities indicate the campus remains calm, with normal activities ongoing.
Authorities further established that the image accompanying the false report was AI-generated and bore no relation to any real incident at the university.
In a show of force to reassure the campus community, the General Officer Commanding 3 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General E.F. Oyinlola, personally led troops to the University of Jos following the circulation of the fake report.
