The Ekiti State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a robbery attack on private student hostels of Ekiti State University, Ado Ekiti, in the early hours of Saturday.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, said the attack occurred at about 2.30am, when armed robbers broke into off-campus hostels in Iworoko, forcibly taking phones and other valuables from students. Officers from the Iworoko Police Division responded to a distress call, trailed the suspects to their hideout and arrested two of them, while others escaped.
The suspects — Abdulraman Abdulmumini, 26, and Abdulsalam Oseni, 31 — confessed to the crime during interrogation and named other gang members currently at large, according to Abutu.
Items recovered from the suspects include an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle used in the operation, two stolen phones, two stolen MP Digital Radios, and stolen shoes and clothes, among other items.
“Investigation is underway, and the arrested suspects are helping with necessary information that will aid the process for the possible arrest of the fleeing suspects as well as the recovery of other stolen items,” Abutu said.
The state Commissioner of Police, Michael Falade, urged members of the public to continue providing credible information to assist the command in arresting criminal elements and curbing crime across the state.
