The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has alerted Nigerians to the circulation of fraudulent messages, emails, and online communications falsely claiming to originate from the apex bank.
The CBN Acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi-Ali, in a statement issued on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, said the misleading messages are designed to spread false information about the apex bank’s leadership, licensing, and policy matters, while also attempting to hack personal accounts.
Sidi-Ali warned that the fraudulent communications often prompt recipients to click suspicious links or share sensitive information, urging members of the public to exercise caution.
“The official website of the Central Bank of Nigeria remains www.cbn.gov.ng,” she stated.

Sidi-Ali urged Nigerians to verify all information through the platform and other recognised media outlets.
Sidi-Ali also advised the public to refrain from clicking suspicious links, avoid sharing personal information on unverified websites, and report any suspected fraudulent messages or emails to law enforcement authorities.
The CBN spokesperson reaffirmed the apex bank’s commitment to protecting Nigeria’s financial system, noting that it is strengthening cybersecurity frameworks in collaboration with relevant agencies to safeguard the public against digital fraud.
