United Bank for Africa, Redtech, and MoMo PSB have launched a strategic payment interoperability partnership aimed at expanding seamless, cardless transactions for consumers and merchants across Nigeria.

The collaboration enables MoMo PSB users to make payments directly from their mobile wallets at participating UBA merchant outlets using the “Pay with MoMo” feature available on RedPay point-of-sale (POS) terminals. Customers can also carry out deposits and withdrawals from their MoMo wallets at any UBA branch nationwide.

For online transactions, the partnership allows e-commerce merchants to receive payments from MoMo users via Redtech’s payment gateway, further widening digital payment options.

The initiative combines Redtech’s payment infrastructure, UBA’s extensive merchant-acquiring network, and MoMo PSB’s growing mobile money ecosystem. Redtech, licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria as both a Payment Terminal Service Provider (PTSP) and Payment Solution Service Provider (PSSP), will power the POS and gateway services supporting the integration.

Stakeholders say the move addresses a longstanding gap between traditional banking channels and telecom-driven mobile money platforms, improving access and convenience in Nigeria’s payment landscape.

UBA’s Head of Digital Banking, Kayode Olubiyi, described the partnership as a practical response to challenges around cash usage and limited card access. He noted that integrating MoMo wallets into UBA’s merchant network connects millions of customers and businesses, creating value on both sides.

Redtech CEO, Emmanuel Ojo, said the partnership is focused on delivering seamless payment experiences for everyday commerce. He added that the integration aligns with Africapitalism, a concept championed by Tony Elumelu, by expanding access and choice for businesses and consumers.

Also speaking, Acting CEO of MoMo PSB, Omolara Michael-Nwadu, highlighted the role of collaboration in breaking down barriers within the financial ecosystem. She noted that integrating MoMo wallets into UBA’s network unlocks access to more than 55,000 merchant locations and supports financial inclusion by bringing services closer to everyday users.

UBA’s Group Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, Alero Ladipo, said the partnership underscores a shared commitment to building scalable financial ecosystems rather than isolated platforms.

“Financial inclusion requires scale, technology, and collaboration. This partnership reflects that commitment in action,” she said.

Currently live in Nigeria, the “Pay with MoMo” service is being rolled out through over 55,000 RedPay POS terminals within UBA’s network.

The platform has already processed transactions worth over ₦278 billion across more than 12 million transactions.

The partners plan to expand the solution to other African markets where both UBA and MoMo PSB operate, further strengthening digital payment adoption across the continent.
