A political support group, Plateau Vanguard for Democracy (PVD), has defended Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s alignment with the All Progressives Congress (APC), saying the decision was already yielding political and developmental gains for Plateau State.
In a statement issued by its National Coordinator, Chris Ishaku, the group said Governor Mutfwang acted out of political foresight and in the best interest of the state amid what it described as growing uncertainty within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to the group, recent developments within the opposition have vindicated the governor’s political calculations, arguing that the PDP was increasingly losing cohesion and stability.
“Governor Mutfwang saw ahead of many others. The reality today is that the PDP has no clear future, and responsible leaders must position their people where opportunities and stability exist,” Ishaku stated.
The group claimed that the governor’s alliance with the ruling party had already improved political relations within Plateau State, leading to reduced tension among political elites and creating a more stable atmosphere for governance.
PVD also linked the Federal Government’s commencement of work on the Akwanga–Jos road project to what it described as stronger cooperation between Plateau State and the centre.
“The commencement of the Akwanga-Jos road is a practical signal that Plateau is now benefiting from stronger cooperation with the Federal Government. These are the gains of strategic political alignment,” the statement added.
According to the group, the road project is expected to improve transportation, boost economic activities and strengthen security across the region.
The group further argued that with internal political disputes reduced, the Mutfwang administration could now focus more on infrastructure, governance and development programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
PVD urged Plateau citizens to support the governor’s political direction, insisting that closer collaboration with the Federal Government would bring greater stability and development to the state.
