The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) confirmed the incident via a statement issued by its General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, on Sunday, May 17, 2026.
Bakare-Oki said the accident occurred when a Lexus vehicle rammed into a police officer riding a Bajaj motorcycle on the Third Mainland Bridge.

Following distress calls, LASTMA officials, in collaboration with officers of the Nigeria Police Force, arrived to manage traffic and begin emergency response.
“Traffic cones and safety devices were strategically placed to prevent further accidents, while police operatives documented the incident,” Bakare-Oki stated.
He noted that coordinated evacuation operations removed affected vehicles and restored normal traffic flow along Third Mainland Bridge.
Bakare-Oki urged motorists to exercise caution, obey speed limits, and avoid reckless driving on Lagos roads.
