The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the sum of N100 million with one surety in like amount.
In her ruling, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik outlined strict conditions for the bail, stating that the surety must reside in either Maitama or Asokoro districts of Abuja and must deposit the original Certificate of Occupancy of a landed property with the court.
The court further directed that the surety must be a federal civil servant not below Grade Level 17 and provide proof of salary payments for at least three months. These documents are to be verified through a letter from the surety’s bank manager within the court’s jurisdiction.
Additionally, the surety is required to submit an affidavit of means, enter into a bail bond, and provide a recent passport photograph, along with a verification letter from their department and a tax clearance certificate covering the last six months.
As part of the bail terms, El-Rufai is to surrender all valid international passports to the court.
Justice Abdulmalik also ordered the former governor to report to the headquarters of the Department of State Services every last Friday of the month by 10 a.m. to sign an attendance register pending the determination of the case.
The court warned that any breach of these conditions would lead to an automatic revocation of the bail.
Furthermore, the defendant was directed to submit a letter of attestation from the Chairman of the Kaduna Traditional Council.
