A group, Plateau Initiative for Growth and Development, has criticised alleged claims made by All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant, Yilchini Jan Bida, against the administration of Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang.
The group, in a statement signed by its State Coordinator, Nengak David, accused Bida of making misleading assertions during a recent media engagement in Jos where he spoke on his ambition to contest the 2027 governorship election.
It said the former military officer attempted to downplay the achievements of the current administration while presenting himself as the only viable solution to the state’s challenges.
According to the group, Bida’s remarks on issues such as security and infrastructure reflected what it described as a lack of understanding of the state’s realities and the aspirations of its people.
The group noted that although such comments might ordinarily be ignored, it deemed it necessary to respond in order to “set the record straight” for residents.
It also questioned Bida’s track record, stating that he has not been visibly involved in peace-building or humanitarian efforts in Plateau, despite his military background.
The statement further alleged that the aspirant had not shown sufficient empathy towards victims of attacks in the state, nor identified with affected communities during periods of crisis.
The group criticised what it described as his stance on security-related concerns, alleging that he appeared more inclined to defend security agencies than empathise with victims.
It also faulted his claims on youth empowerment, arguing that there is no record of him facilitating employment opportunities or initiating programmes aimed at improving the welfare of young people in the state.
According to the group, leadership requires compassion, commitment and a proven track record of service, adding that Plateau cannot afford to entrust its future to individuals disconnected from the people’s realities.
The group reaffirmed its support for leaders it described as empathetic and committed to rebuilding the state, insisting that Bida lacks the credibility to lead Plateau.
