President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Rangers International FC of Enugu for winning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title for a record ninth time.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President praised the club’s players, management, and supporters for finishing top of the table with 68 points from 38 matches, ahead of Rivers United.
Tinubu described the victory as a continuation of Rangers’ historic legacy, recalling the club’s dominance in Nigerian and African football during the 1970s and 1980s, including their appearances in continental competitions such as the African Cup of Champions Clubs and the African Cup Winners’ Cup.
He also commended Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah for his support for youth and sports development, noting that the triumph reflects investments in grassroots sports.
The President lauded Rangers as one of Nigeria’s most storied clubs, highlighting their contribution to producing top football talents who have represented the country internationally.
Tinubu also praised Rivers United for their strong performance throughout the season and for showing good sportsmanship during the title race.
He wished both clubs success as they prepare to represent Nigeria in the next CAF Champions League season.
