The Presidency has advised residents and religious groups in Kwara State and Kogi State to temporarily suspend “Ori Oke” (mountain-top) prayer gatherings due to rising insecurity.
The directive was issued by Abiodun Essiet, Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Tinubu on Community Engagement for the North Central.
In a statement, Essiet warned that remote prayer locations such as mountains and forests are increasingly being used as hideouts by criminal elements, including bandits, posing risks to worshippers.
While acknowledging the importance of faith, the Presidency stressed that safety must come first, noting that worship can be conducted anywhere without exposing individuals to danger.
Residents and religious leaders were urged to cooperate with security agencies and comply with the temporary suspension until the situation improves.
The government described the move as a precautionary measure to protect lives and allow security forces to effectively address threats in vulnerable areas.
