Prominent activist and politician, Aisha Yesufu, has publicly criticised the National Leader of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Henry Seriake Dickson, accusing him of focusing on personal issues rather than promoting the party’s vision ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement addressed to Dickson, Yesufu rejected suggestions that she failed to follow party procedures during the party’s recent nomination process, insisting that she respected the party’s decisions despite disagreements over the conduct of primaries.
She said she had actively participated in grassroots politics and worked to calm supporters who were disappointed after expected primaries did not hold.
According to Yesufu, her concern was not about party leadership but about positioning the NDC for electoral success in 2027.
She expressed disappointment over Dickson’s first major interview after the party’s primaries, arguing that it focused more on his personal role than on promoting the party’s presidential candidate and reassuring members about the party’s prospects.
“With all due respect, it looked as if you considered the registration of the NDC an achievement in itself rather than a means to winning the 2027 election,” she said.
The activist maintained that party leaders should focus on uniting aggrieved aspirants, mobilising supporters and building confidence ahead of the next general election.
She also accused the NDC leader of alienating party members whose support would be crucial in future elections.
According to her, leadership requires accepting responsibility for mistakes and addressing grievances rather than shifting blame when internal processes are questioned.
Yesufu described the NDC as a young party that would inevitably face challenges and argued that acknowledging shortcomings was necessary for growth and improvement.
She further urged party leaders to concentrate on what she described as the broader task of rescuing Nigeria from its current challenges, rather than engaging in internal disputes.
Emphasising the need for unity, she stated that no one was challenging Dickson’s leadership of the party and that the primary objective should be securing victory in the 2027 elections.
She concluded her remarks with a quote from motivational speaker Jim Rohn, urging party leaders to focus on future achievements rather than past accomplishments.
