The Katsina State Government has announced the death of retired Major General Rabe Abubakar while in the custody of bandits.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasiru Mu’azu, the government said the retired military officer died from complications arising from diabetes and hypertension while in captivity.

The state government described the incident as a tragic loss to the late general’s family, Katsina State and the nation.

It said efforts by the state government and security agencies to secure his safe release were unsuccessful.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda expressed deep sorrow over the retired general’s death, describing the incident as a dark moment and a reminder of the urgent need for a united front against criminal elements threatening peace and security.

The governor extended his condolences to the bereaved family and Nigerians, assuring residents that the government’s resolve to tackle banditry and protect lives and property remains unwavering.

The Katsina State Government also pledged to continue working with the Federal Government and security agencies to ensure those responsible for the abduction are brought to justice.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family during this difficult time. May the soul of the departed retired Major General Rabe Abubakar rest in eternal peace,” the statement said.
