Four research teams from the Kwara State University (KWASU) have secured competitive research grants from two renowned funding organisations.
The KWASU Acting Director of University Relations, Dr Saeedat Aliyu, disclosed this in a statement issued on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
Aliyu said a research team led by Dr. Bolatito Olanipekun as Principal Investigator was awarded a $43,913 research grant by TWAS-UNESCO, while three KWASU research teams emerged successful under the 2025 National Research Fund (NRF) grant scheme.
Aliyu disclosed that the team led by Dr. Abdulwaheed Musa received N37,590,000, while Dr. Kehinde Alabi’s team secured N25,000,000.

She said another team led by Dr. Khafayat Olatinwo was awarded N20,435,900.
Aliyu quoted the KWASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Jimoh Shaykh-Luqman, as congratulating the grant recipients while presenting the award letters to them.
The VC described their success as a reflection of the university’s support of impactful research and innovation.
Shaykh-Luqman also urged the awardees to mentor early-career researchers and emphasised building a strong research culture that would continue to attract competitive grants and enhance the institution’s global visibility.
