A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State, has remanded a 73-year-old man, Olarenwaju Hamid, in the correctional centre for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a teenager and attempting to procure an abortion.
The 73-year-old man, whose plea was not taken by the court, was arraigned on a two-count charge of unlawful carnal knowledge and attempt to procure an abortion
The prosecutor, Saheed Abiodun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence at Idi-Ori in Abeokuta in March 2026.
Abiodun said the 73-year-old man, who was the caregiver to the 15-year-old girl, on several occasions, had carnal knowledge of the teenager, which subsequently resulted to pregnancy.
He added that the septuagenarian attempted to procure an illegal abortion for the victim, offering her N50,000 with the intent to terminate the pregnancy.

Abiodun moved a motion ex parte praying the court for an order to remand Hamid.
