The Kano State Police Command has concluded a one-month intensive combat and weapon handling training for the first batch of 200 police officers as part of efforts to strengthen operational capacity and improve service delivery across the state.
The training, held simultaneously at the No. 9 Police Mobile Force Base in Hotoro and the No. 52 PMF Base in Challawa, ended with a passing-out parade on Monday at the No. 9 PMF parade ground in Kano.
Speaking at the ceremony on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Finance and Administration, Audu Sabo, said the exercise was aimed at enhancing the combat readiness and professionalism of officers in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police.
He commended the participants for their discipline and commitment throughout the training, stressing that the command remained committed to building a police force that is both effective in combating crime and respectful of citizens’ rights.
According to him, the officers received training not only in combat tactics and weapon handling but also in human rights, public relations, intelligence-led policing and community policing.
“The Kano State Police Command believes in a dual approach: be hard on crime and be soft on the people. Our officers must be prepared to confront criminals while respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens,” he said.
Sabo urged the officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the training in the discharge of their duties, noting that professionalism remains a core value of the Nigeria Police Force.
He added that the command would continue to organise refresher courses to equip more officers with modern policing skills.
Earlier, the Commanding Officer of No. 9 PMF, ACP Hafiz Oyekan, commended the Commissioner of Police for approving the training and praised the instructors and participants for their commitment throughout the programme.
The Commanding Officer of No. 52 PMF, ACP Mannir Madugu, also expressed appreciation to the command leadership for giving both PMF bases the opportunity to host the training, pledging continued support for capacity-building initiatives.
He encouraged the graduating officers to remain disciplined, vigilant and professional as they return to their respective divisions and formations across Kano State.
The Police Command said the training forms part of its broader strategy to improve operational efficiency, uphold human rights and strengthen community policing across the state.
