Former Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has turned down an offer to become the head coach of the Italian national team, opting instead to take time away from football to focus on his family.
Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, in a statement on Friday, said the Italian Football Federation approached Guardiola this week with a proposal to lead the Azzurri, but the Spaniard declined the opportunity for personal reasons.
Romano revealed that the former Barcelona manager wants to dedicate time to his family, recharge after his recent managerial stint, and only return to coaching when he feels the right project comes along.
He said the former City manager’s decision was not influenced by financial considerations, stating that his rejection of the role was based entirely on personal priorities.

Romano wrote on X: “Pep Guardiola said no to Italy due to personal decision, it’s not about financial proposal.
“Guardiola will be back at coaching at the right time and when he feels new project is the best one possible; now dedicating time to family.”
The 55-year-old has enjoyed a glittering managerial career, winning numerous domestic league titles and UEFA Champions League trophies with Barcelona and Manchester City.
