Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, and former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad engaged in a heated exchange on X on Thursday, with a political conversation over the 2026 Osun State governorship election spilling into a debate about Grammy nominations.
The online spat began after Ahmad responded to criticism over the 16 votes he secured in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Osun State.
In a post on X, Ahmad wrote: “We have talked enough about the number of votes I got in my primaries. Can we now talk about the number of Grammy Awards you have won from your five nominations, David? Fair is fair.”
Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is a prominent figure in Osun politics, quickly fired back, dismissing the comparison.
“U got 16 votes bro in primaries STFU,” the singer replied.
The exchange quickly gained traction on social media, with users weighing in on the comparison between Ahmad’s performance in the APC primary and Davido’s record of multiple Grammy nominations without a win.
While Ahmad sought to shift attention from his showing at the primary election by referencing Davido’s Grammy record, the singer’s response redirected focus to the former presidential aide’s 16-vote outcome.
The social media clash comes amid heightened political conversations ahead of the 2026 Osun governorship election, where Governor Adeleke is expected to play a significant role in the People’s Democratic Party’s campaign.
