A 60-year-old woman, Olufunke Amoo, has been found dead at her residence in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State.
Confirming the incident via a statement issued on Monday, August 17, 2026, the Ondo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the woman was found in pool of blood at her residence on Sunday when police operatives received a report on the incident.
Jimoh noted that preliminary information revealed that the victim had sustained deep machete cuts and was already dead when she was discovered.
Jimoh, however, disclosed that a suspect, Samuel Akoade, was apprehended in connection with the killing of the woman.
He stated: “Following the report, police operatives from Ore Division immediately mobilised to the scene, secured the area and commenced preliminary investigation.
“A machete suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered, while the scene was photographed and documented.
“The suspected assailant, initially identified simply as Samuel, was reported to have fled the scene before the arrival of the police.
“Following sustained efforts by the operatives, Samuel Akoade was subsequently arrested and taken into police custody.”

The police spokesman said the remains of the deceased have been deposited at the mortuary, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Akure, for further investigation.
Jimoh said the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has directed that the investigation be conducted professionally to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing and ensure that anyone found culpable was brought to justice.
Jimoh urged the people of Ondo State to continue providing timely and useful information to the police, particularly on suspicious activities in their communities.
