A Magistrates’ Court sitting in Kaduna has sentenced a driver, Edward Isaac, to two years imprisonment for stealing cartons of floor tiles worth N880,000.
The Magistrate, Ibrahim Emmanuel, sentenced Isaac after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and stealing on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
Delivering judgement, the Magistrate held that the prosecution established its case beyond reasonable doubt and also condemned Isaac’s betrayal of trust.
Emmanuel held that such acts undermined workplace discipline and accountability.
Emmanuel consequently sentenced the driver to a term of two years imprisonment with hard labour and without an option of fine.
The Magistrate said the punishment would serve as a deterrence to others.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Inspector Chidi Leo, told the court that the complainant, David Silas of D&C Construction Firm, located at Barnawa Kaduna, reported the matter at the police station on August 12, 2026.

Leo said Silas reported the matter after he was informed of a theft at the company’s warehouse by a worker who saw the driver and one other at large loading 40 cartons of floor tiles into a truck without authorisation.
Leo said the driver was immediately arrested while his accomplice ran away.
He disclosed that Isaac confessed that he planned to sell the tiles to one Dauda Bege.
The offences, according to him, contravene the provisions of the Kaduna State Penal Code 2017.
