Troops of Sector 3, Operation Hadin Kai, have arrested a suspected illicit drug dealer and two alleged collaborators, including a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force, in Monguno Local Government Area of Borno State.
The suspects were arrested at about 9:25pm on Tuesday, August 18, following intelligence-led surveillance of suspected drug trafficking activities in the area.
A security source said the alleged principal suspect, identified as Babagana Modu, also known as Osama, was arrested alongside two alleged collaborators.
One of the collaborators was identified as Awami Alhaji Garba, a member of the Civilian Joint Task Force.
The suspects were apprehended in the Gidan Wuta area of Monguno town during the operation.
Troops reportedly recovered a quantity of suspected cannabis sativa concealed in three sacks.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been handed over to Sector 3 authorities for further investigation and necessary action.
Security sources said efforts were ongoing to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly linked to the suspected drug trafficking network.
The operation is part of sustained intelligence-driven efforts by security forces to disrupt illicit drug trafficking and other criminal activities that could undermine counter-insurgency operations in the North-East.
Further details are expected as investigations continue.
