A woman and her three children have died after a fire destroyed their home in Rugar Audu Badali Fulani community, Karasuwa Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday, August 21, 2026, according to the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (YOSEMA).

The victims were identified as Bilkisu, wife of Mallam Bukar, and her three children, Zainab, Hafsat and Salamatu.

YOSEMA said the victims had been buried according to Islamic rites, while the fire rendered surviving members of the family homeless after destroying the house and their belongings.

The agency’s Director of Search and Rescue Operations, Dr Muhammad Ibrahim Jalo, disclosed this in Damaturu, saying a joint team had visited the community to assess the damage and offer condolences to the bereaved family.

The team comprised officials of YOSEMA, representatives of the Karasuwa Local Government Authority and community stakeholders.

Jalo said the assessment identified the need for emergency relief materials, temporary shelter and psychosocial support for residents affected by the fire.

He said YOSEMA was coordinating efforts to mobilise humanitarian assistance and support the displaced family.

The agency condoled with the bereaved family and residents of the community, praying for the repose of the deceased and strength for those affected.

YOSEMA also urged residents and relevant stakeholders to strengthen fire-prevention measures to reduce the risk of similar tragedies across the state.
