A 20-year-old fighter formerly affiliated with the Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’adati wal-Jihad (JAS) has surrendered to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State.
The fighter, identified as Kurso Muhammed, surrendered at about 2:25 p.m. on August 23, 2026, at New Abaram Resettlement Village.
He reportedly surrendered to troops of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade following sustained intelligence-led operations in the area.
Muhammed has been taken into military custody for screening and further processing, according to security sources.
His surrender comes amid continued military operations against terrorist groups in the North-East, with recent operations reportedly putting pressure on fighters and their operating networks.
The Joint Task Force said the security situation across the theatre remained calm but unpredictable, adding that troops continued to maintain high morale and operational readiness.
