Anambra State Police Command has detained a 20-year-old man, Pascal Ogbogu, for allegedly murdering his 56-year-old father in the Abatete area of the state.
The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, who disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday, said the incident occurred in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, on Tuesday, August 25, 2026.
Ikenga said the suspect allegedly attacked his father with a machete before fleeing the scene after the incident.
Ikenga said police operatives from Eziowelle Police Division mobilised after receiving a distress report, alongside family members and Abatete Vigilance personnel.
He noted that the responders found the deceased’s lifeless body in a pool of blood, with a deep machete wound to the throat.
“The body was subsequently evacuated to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” Ikenga added.
The police spokesman said coordinated efforts by police and community members led to the 20-year-old man’s arrest in the early hours of Wednesday.

Ikenga said timely information and cooperation from community members assisted security operatives in tracking and locating the fleeing suspect.
Ikenga stated that the Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Ama, directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
He said the transfer would enable further investigation and a comprehensive review of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The police spokesperson added that the 20-year-old man would face due process upon the conclusion of the investigation.
