The Nigeria Customs Service has commenced the final stage of its 2025 recruitment exercise, with shortlisted applicants undergoing documentation, physical fitness assessments and medical screening in Abuja.
The two-week exercise started on Monday, September 7, at the Training and Doctrine Command, Gwagwalada, and is scheduled to end on September 19, 2026.
The exercise is being conducted for candidates shortlisted for the Assistant Superintendent of Customs II, Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres.
To prevent overcrowding and ensure a smooth process, the candidates are being attended to in batches according to the alphabetical order of their states of origin.
The Assistant Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of Human Resource Development, Frank Onyeka, told the applicants that the selection process would go beyond physical fitness and medical requirements.
He said candidates’ discipline, attitude and conduct would also influence the final selection of recruits.
“Beyond physical requirements, your attitude, discipline, and conduct are critical factors in deciding who ultimately joins the Service,” Onyeka said.
He urged the applicants to maintain order and adhere to all instructions guiding the screening, warning them against actions that could disrupt the process.
Onyeka added that the service had deployed the Customs Police and other relevant units to protect the integrity of the exercise and ensure that the process was conducted transparently.
The Commandant of the Nigeria Customs Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Assistant Comptroller-General Dow Gaura, attributed the smooth conduct of the exercise to improved administrative arrangements and collaboration among relevant agencies.
“Everything happening here reflects the policy vision of the Comptroller-General of Customs, which emphasised continuous operational improvement, collaboration, and innovation,” Gaura said.
He described the screening exercise as “seamless” and “hitch-free”, noting that it had so far proceeded without casualties.
Screening for candidates in the Assistant Superintendent of Customs cadre ended on Thursday, September 10, while the assessment of candidates for the Inspectorate and Customs Assistant cadres will continue until September 19.
The service said the final phase is expected to determine candidates who will proceed to join the Nigeria Customs Service.
