Personnel of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards have reportedly killed eight suspected bandits during an ambush in the Mada axis of Gusau Local Government Area of the state.
The operation occurred on Monday evening after the suspected bandits, who were riding motorcycles, allegedly attempted to attack civilians before retreating towards their forest hideouts.
Sources said the CPG operatives intercepted the group and engaged them in a gun battle.
Eight of the 10 suspected bandits were reportedly killed during the encounter, while the remaining two escaped into the surrounding area.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by local security formations to support conventional security agencies in tackling banditry and protecting vulnerable communities across Zamfara.
Residents reportedly commended the CPG personnel for responding swiftly to the attempted attack.
Security forces are continuing operations aimed at disrupting the activities of criminal groups operating in different parts of the state.
