The All Progressives Congress has won the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency by-election in Kano State, with its candidate, Hussaini Yusuf Datti, polling 22,890 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Datti winner after the conclusion of voting, counting and collation from Saturday’s election.
The Peoples Redemption Party came a distant second with 270 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party secured 180 votes. The Action Peoples Party polled 53 votes and the Labour Party recorded 39 votes.
The election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the Kano State House of Assembly.
The seat became vacant after its former occupant, Shuaibu Rabiu Nagoggo, popularly known as Abba Gano, moved to the House of Representatives following his victory in the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency by-election.
The federal seat had become vacant following the death of its former representative, Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, in April 2026.
INEC’s results portal shows that results from all 303 polling units in the Dawakin Kudu State Constituency were uploaded, giving the election a 100 per cent result-sheet upload rate.
The poll was conducted amid security arrangements across the constituency, with the Kano State Police Command commending voters for their peaceful conduct and cooperation with security personnel.
The command said the cooperation of residents and other stakeholders contributed to the peaceful conduct of the election.
With Datti’s victory, the vacant Dawakin Kudu seat has been filled following the departure of Nagoggo to the National Assembly.
