The Oyo State Government has declared Monday, October 5, 2026, a work-free day for all teachers across the state in commemoration of the 2026 Teachers Day.
This directive was contained in a circular issued on Sunday by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Musibau Babatunde.
Babatunde said the declaration reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to the welfare, dignity, and professional development of teachers.
Babatunde noted that teachers remained the backbone of Oyo State’s educational system and key drivers of human capital development in the state.

He stated that the work-free day was intended to provide teachers with the opportunity to fully participate in activities organised to celebrate their contributions.
“It will also make them reflect on progress within the education sector, and strengthen unity within the teaching community,” he said.
The SSG congratulated all teachers on the occasion and reaffirms the Oyo State Government’s dedication to policies and programmes that continue to enhance teaching and learning across the state.
