The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will on Tuesday brief Nigerians on its level of preparedness for the 2027 general elections as the polls enter the final 100-day countdown.
The commission is expected to provide updates on the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and measures being put in place to safeguard the integrity of the elections.
The briefing will take place at a national stakeholders’ meeting and World Press Conference scheduled for 10am at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, SAN, will address the gathering alongside other key stakeholders in the electoral process.
The commission said the engagement was part of efforts to keep Nigerians and critical actors informed about its preparations and strengthen collaboration ahead of the elections.
“The Commission will provide updates on preparations for the elections, including the voters’ register, candidate nominations, logistics and critical measures to ensure the integrity of the electoral process,” INEC said in a statement.
The commission added that the stakeholders’ meeting was designed to deepen engagement with institutions and groups whose activities are central to the conduct and security of the polls.
Political party leaders, security agencies participating in the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security, members of the diplomatic corps, development partners, civil society organisations and election observer groups are expected at the meeting.
Disability rights advocates, religious and traditional leaders, youth organisations and media executives will also participate.
The briefing comes at a critical point in preparations for the 2027 elections, with INEC expected to address the progress of its administrative, logistical and technological arrangements.
The commission has not said whether it will announce any changes to the electoral timetable at the meeting.
Proceedings will be broadcast live on major national television networks and streamed on INEC’s official social media platforms.
Attendance at the venue will be strictly by invitation, with accredited journalists and invited guests required to present their accreditation badges or invitation cards at security checkpoints.
