No fewer than nine travellers have been confirmed dead in a road crash along the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway in Ogun State.
The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun State, Afolabi Odunsi, who confirmed the road crash via a statement, said the incident occurred at about 4:55 p.m. on Monday, October 5, 2026, at Bethel area along the Ijebu-Ode/Ore Expressway.
Odunsi disclosed that the accident involved a white Toyota Hiace commercial bus belonging to Delta Line and a white Sino Truck belonging to Bill Gas Solution Limited.
Odunsi said nine people – three males and six females – were involved in the crash, adding that all were killed.
He said the accident occurred in the rain on a slippery road, adding that a preliminary investigation identified speeding as the probable cause.
Odunsi stated: “The FRSC rescue team arrived at the scene at about 4:58 p.m., two minutes after receiving the report.
“The deceased victims were evacuated and deposited at the General Hospital Morgue, Ijebu-Ode, while the vehicles were towed to Ilese Police Station by the Ilese Police MTD.”

Odunsi quoted the Sector Commander, Oludare Ogunjobi, as urging motorists, particularly commercial vehicle operators, to exercise caution while driving during rainfall.
Ogunjobi advised motorists to obey speed limits, maintain safe following distances, and avoid behaviours that could endanger other road users.
He noted that speeding on wet roads is dangerous because reduced tyre grip and poor visibility could make it difficult for motorists to control their vehicles or stop safely.
The FRSC commander commiserated with the families of the victims and urged all road users to make safety their priority at all times.
