Globacom has announced its sponsorship of the 2026 Ofala Festival of Onitsha, as the historic cultural celebration prepares to hold next week.

The 2026 edition will mark the 25th Ofala of the reign of the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, with the theme, “Igba Mbo, Iga N’Iru – Strive and Advance: From Resilience to Progress.”

Globacom, which has sponsored the festival for more than 15 years, said its continued partnership reflects its commitment to preserving and promoting Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

The telecommunications company said the theme captures the resilience, enterprise and determination of the people of Onitsha to preserve their heritage while pursuing progress.

“For Globacom, Ofala is far more than an annual cultural celebration. It is a living expression of identity, continuity and collective aspiration,” the company said in a statement.

Globacom said its sponsorship goes beyond conventional corporate support, describing it as an investment in cultural preservation, community engagement and the continuity of the Onitsha people’s heritage.

The festival has evolved from a royal rite of renewal into a major platform for cultural expression and community development.

Activities lined up for the 2026 celebration include the Obi’s traditional period of seclusion and ceremonial emergence, a Medical, Health and Wellbeing Community Outreach, the international Oreze Art Exhibition, Youth Carnival, and the Iru Ofala and Azu Ofala ceremonies.

Globacom said its partnership with Ofala also aligns with its philosophy of promoting innovation, connectivity and digital inclusion.

The company said its “Never Settle for Less” philosophy reflects the festival’s emphasis on drawing strength from tradition while pursuing greater opportunities and progress.

The 2026 Ofala Festival is expected to bring together traditional leaders, residents, visitors and cultural enthusiasts for the celebration of Onitsha’s heritage and identity.
