A Kano-based tailor, Abdulkadir Hassanul Basari, has completed a 120-hour sewing marathon in a bid to break the Guinness World Record for the longest sewing marathon.
Basari concluded the challenge on Monday night after starting it on October 7, 2026, at the sports complex of Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria in Kano.
The attempt sought to surpass the reported 106 hours and 55 minutes recorded by Nigerian tailor Oluwaseun Kuforiji in January 2025.
Basari undertook the marathon through his Sew for the Nation initiative, which aims to provide school uniforms for pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds in public schools.
The initiative seeks to use fashion and practical skills to support children’s education and ease some of the challenges that prevent vulnerable pupils from being adequately prepared for school.
Through the project, Basari is also highlighting the potential of entrepreneurship and professional skills to contribute to community development.
However, completing the 120-hour challenge does not automatically guarantee a world record. Guinness World Records must review the evidence and verify that the attempt complied with its requirements before granting official recognition.
