Ohanaeze Ndigbo backs Tinubu’s re-election, Adeola’s Ogun governorship bi
The Ogun State chapter of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid and the ambition of Senator Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, to become the state’s next governor in 2027.
The group announced its support during a courtesy visit to Adeola by a five-member delegation led by its state president, Eze Stephen Okorie, over the weekend.
Okorie also disclosed that the organisation would confer the chieftaincy title of “Dike Eji Eje Mba” on the senator at an installation ceremony scheduled for later this month in Abeokuta.
He said the event would also feature a public endorsement of Adeola and a declaration of support for all All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Ogun State.
According to Okorie, the group has installed five campaign billboards promoting Tinubu and Adeola across the state and produced campaign materials in support of the senator.
He said the endorsement followed his assessment of developments in Ogun State, particularly projects involving market infrastructure and road construction, which he credited to Adeola over the past three years.
“I have been a resident in Ogun State for the last 36 years, living in Owode-Yewa in Yewa South LGA. We have been watching the politics and development in Ogun State,” Okorie said.
He added that the Igbo community had no hesitation in backing Adeola’s governorship ambition because of what he described as the senator’s contributions to trade and commerce.
Responding, Adeola said members of the Igbo community had also supported his political career during his time in Lagos, where he received the title “Dike Di Ora Nma” from the Eze Ndi Igbo in the state.
The senator described his political approach as one centred on inclusion and good governance, saying infrastructure projects should benefit all residents regardless of their ethnic background.
“My brand of politics is politics of inclusion and delivery of good governance for all the people,” he said, adding that law-abiding Nigerians were welcome to do business and pursue opportunities in Ogun State.
Those present at the meeting included APC deputy governorship candidate in Ogun State, Alhaja Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun; Minister of State for Health and Social Services, Dr Kunle Salako; Ogun State Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Laolu Olabimtan; and APC Ogun West senatorial candidate, Jimoh Ojugbele, alongside other party candidates.
