Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared that President Bola Tinubu is assured of victory in the territory in the 2027 presidential election, claiming that leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have united behind his re-election bid.

Wike made the claim on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with political stakeholders, traditional rulers, women and youth groups in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The minister, who coordinates the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the FCT and Rivers State, said the gathering marked a break from years of partisan rivalry, arguing that political differences should not stand in the way of development.

He said the Tinubu administration had transformed the FCT through infrastructure projects and policies aimed at improving inclusion, citing the Apo-Karshi Road, which he said had stalled for 16 years before the current administration.

Wike also defended the removal of the petrol subsidy, describing it as a difficult but necessary decision that previous administrations lacked the political will to implement.

“Every president said it was a scam, but nobody had the courage to say it would go. That is the pain we will endure till we get it right,” he said.

He argued that increased statutory allocations to state and local governments had improved their capacity to execute infrastructure projects without relying heavily on commercial bank loans.

Wike urged residents, particularly young people, to support Tinubu and other candidates aligned with the ruling party, saying the FCT campaign council would be inaugurated the following week.

“The comprehensive campaign council will be inaugurated next week. Be rest assured that all logistical backing required for a landslide victory has been fully secured,” he said.

The FCT APC Chairman, Ishaku Yamawo, praised Wike for bringing rival political groups together, saying party affiliations had previously strained relationships among residents and political leaders.

He also commended Tinubu for addressing the concerns of indigenous communities through infrastructure development, compensation and political appointments.

Similarly, the FCT PDP Chairman, Mohammed Dogara, said political divisions in the territory were giving way to cooperation, declaring support for Tinubu’s re-election.

Dogara said the PDP structure in the FCT would mobilise at the grassroots level from January 16, 2027, urging traditional rulers and community leaders to encourage support for the president.

The District Head of Jikoyi, Nicodemus Marchi, also praised Wike for addressing security concerns and reviving abandoned road projects, while highlighting changes to traditional leadership positions after years of neglect.

Representing youths in AMAC, Musa Jeji, chairman of the FCT Gbagyi Youth Forum, said youth associations across the council’s wards were prepared to mobilise for Tinubu.

Former FCT APC Women Leader, Hilmary Aipoh, called for greater involvement of women in the campaign structure, citing the establishment of the Women Affairs Secretariat and improved rural roads as areas of progress.

Aipoh described AMAC’s 1,400 polling units as a major battleground for the 2027 election and urged Wike to integrate women directly into the campaign machinery.
