The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 34-year-old South African woman with 36.65kg of cocaine at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, while attempting to board a flight to South Africa through Doha.
The suspect, identified as Qhina Beauty, was arrested on October 7 after operatives discovered 30 blocks of cocaine concealed in her two travelling bags.
According to the NDLEA, the cocaine was wrapped in cello tape, mixed with dried pepper and packed into seven separate parcels.
During interrogation, Qhina allegedly told investigators that she travelled to Nigeria on September 30 specifically to collect the consignment and was promised R20,000 by another South African woman upon successful delivery.
She reportedly identified two other alleged members of the trafficking network, including a United States-based individual and a Lagos car dealer.
Further investigations led to the arrest of the car dealer, 46-year-old Uchenna Victor Umunnakwe, on October 14 at Apple Junction, Ago Palace Way, Lagos.
The NDLEA said Umunnakwe admitted receiving the South African woman at the airport and arranging accommodation for her at two hotels ahead of her planned departure.
The agency said investigations were continuing to uncover other members of the alleged trafficking network.
