Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, joined models on the runway at Lagos Fashion Week on Saturday, surprising attendees during a showcase of Nigerian designer Ugo Monye’s collection.
The governor’s appearance drew loud cheers from the audience as he walked alongside models, stepping away from his usual governance duties to participate in the fashion event.
Sanwo-Olu later explained his appearance in a post on his X handle, describing it as an opportunity to support Lagos’ growing creative industry.
“I stepped away from the usual business of governance to walk the runway for the incredibly talented Ugo Monye at Lagos Fashion Week. Lagos continues to grow as a home for fashion, creativity and culture and I am always happy to support the people driving this growth,” he wrote.
His participation highlighted the state government’s support for the fashion sector, which contributes to Lagos’ cultural identity and creative economy.
