The wife of the slain Olukoro of Koro-Ekiti in the Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, Oba Olusegun Aremu-Cole, and one other kidnapped by gunmen have reportedly regained freedom from captivity.
It was gathered that the kidnapped victims were released by their abductors on Monday night.
“The news just received from home confirms that Olori and the girl have been released and have returned to Koro about 30 minutes ago,” the Asiwaju of Koro, Chief Samuel Ayobola told National Pilot on Tuesday morning.
The Star had reported that the gunmen reduced the N100 million ransom placed on the abducted victims to N40 million.
Kidnappers reduce ransom on Kwara monarch’s wife, other to N40m
The traditional ruler was murdered in his palace last Thursday, February 1, 2024.
His wife and another person were also abducted by the assailants.
It was gathered that the gunmen, on Sunday, February 4, reached out to the late monarch’s family for a N100 million ransom payment before they later reduced it to N40 million.
However, it could not be immediately ascertained if the ransom was paid to secure the victims’ release.
The Kwara State Police Command has equally yet to speak on the development as of press time.
