The pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State have regained their freedom following a successful rescue operation by Nigerian security agencies.
The development was announced on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in a post on his verified X handle.
“Finally, all the kidnapped pupils and teachers in Orire, Oyo have been rescued by our security agencies,” Onanuga wrote.
In a video released after their rescue, the victims expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to securing their freedom and commended the efforts of the security operatives involved in the operation.
“We are grateful, Mr President, sir. We understand your commitment to our safety, and we appreciate all you did for us. We could see it in your heart. Thank you very much,” one of the rescued victims said.
The victim also praised the security personnel, saying their efforts ensured they returned home safely.
“Every security operative tried so much, and that is why we are still alive now. We are very grateful to you. Thank you very much. God bless you, sir,” the victim added.
The rescue brings an end to the ordeal of the pupils and teachers, whose abduction had sparked widespread concern and prompted intensified security operations to secure their release.
