ABUAD hospital records maternal health milestone as 60-year-old woman delivers healthy babies

The Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital (AMSH), Ado-Ekiti, has recorded another landmark achievement in maternal healthcare after a 60-year-old woman successfully conceived, carried her pregnancy to term, and delivered healthy babies under the care of its Fertility Centre.

The patient, who received comprehensive antenatal care from her first trimester through delivery, was managed by a multidisciplinary team at AMSH in partnership with Olive Hospital. Chief Medical Director, Dr. Akinola Akinmade, commended the collaboration, stressing that the case demonstrates how advanced reproductive technology and quality obstetric services can achieve safe outcomes even in high-risk pregnancies.

Equipped with modern fertility facilities, uninterrupted power and oxygen supply, and highly skilled specialists, AMSH has continued to deliver complex maternal and reproductive health interventions.

This aligns with the vision of its founder, Aare Afe Babalola, SAN, to provide world-class healthcare locally and reduce Nigeria’s dependence on medical tourism.

Since opening in 2018, the 400-bed AMSH—described by experts as the best-equipped hospital in sub-Saharan Africa—has performed groundbreaking procedures including open-heart surgery, brain and spine surgeries, kidney transplants, joint replacements, interventional radiology, and advanced IVF services.

The hospital’s facilities include modular theatres, multiple MRI machines, a Cath lab, modern dialysis units, a blood bank, and even a certified helipad for emergency evacuations.

With this latest success in maternal healthcare, AMSH continues to demonstrate that Nigerian hospitals, with the right vision, technology, and expertise, can rival the best in the world while saving lives at home.
