Foluke Adeboye, wife of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has revealed that she discarded her gold jewellery into the lagoon as a personal expression of her commitment to Christianity.
Speaking in a resurfaced interview aired on Gold Maker TV, Adeboye described how her lifestyle underwent a significant transformation after she became born again during the early years of the RCCG.
The cleric’s wife said she had a strong passion for fashion in her younger years, noting that she once purchased gold and other jewellery items even for her infant son.
However, she said her priorities shifted completely after embracing her faith, adding that wearing earrings and gold was considered unacceptable at the time.

“Once we became born again in RCCG, it was forbidden to wear earrings. So I threw everything into the lagoon,” she said.
Adeboye recalled that her action surprised some people, including a friend of her mother who questioned why she did not give the jewellery away instead of discarding it.
Responding, Adeboye said: “If it is not good for me, it is not good for my mother.”
Reflecting on her decision, she added that she has no regrets about letting go of the items.
