Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has officially defected to the Accord Party, days after announcing his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeleke made the formal declaration on Tuesday at the Government House Banquet Hall in Osogbo, alongside national and state leaders of his new party.
The governor revealed that he secretly joined the Accord Party on November 6, following weeks of consultations with political stakeholders.
He also confirmed his intention to seek re-election in 2026 on the platform of the “Thumb-Up” party.
“I joined the Accord Party more than a month ago as the platform to seek re-election in 2026,” Adeleke said.
“Stakeholders and residents of Osun State understand why we took this decision. We intend to complete the ongoing delivery of good governance that has been widely applauded.”
Adeleke noted that the party’s welfarist ideology aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.
He welcomed Accord Party leaders to the Government House, stressing the need to maintain unity ahead of next year’s governorship election.
“Since joining this great party, I have been fascinated by its philosophy.
“The welfare of the people should always be the essence of governance,” he said.
“From infrastructure to social services, Osun has never had it so good.”
Adeleke urged residents across Osun’s three senatorial districts and major communities to support his new platform, saying Accord Party is poised to “take over Osun governance and sustain good leadership.”
The governor formally resigned from the PDP on December 2, citing persistent leadership crises at the national level.
“In a statement posted on Instagram, he disclosed that he submitted his resignation letter to his ward leaders in Ede North on November 4.
“I thank the PDP for the opportunities given to me as Senator and now as Governor,” he said, noting that ongoing factional disputes made his continued membership untenable.
Adeleke will now pursue his 2026 re-election bid under the Accord Party.
