AFCON 2025: Akor Adams leaves Super Eagles camp in Morocco

Super Eagles striker Akor Adams has left the team’s camp in Morocco following Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique in the last 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Super Eagles announced this via a statement on Tuesday, saying Adams was granted permission to be with his mother who has been hospitalised.

The team stated: “Akor Adams has been granted permission to leave camp to go be with his mum, who was hospitalised yesterday.

“We’re sending prayers and strength to him and wishing his mum a quick recovery🙏🏽🦅❤️”

Adams scored a goal in Nigeria’s 4-0 win over Mozambique at Fes Sports Complex on Monday night.

The 25-year-old striker opened his goal account at the tournament with a 70th-minute strike, which completed Nigeria’s commanding display against Mozambique.

He also provided the assist for Ademola Lookman’s opening goal and was involved in Super Eagles’ second goal, which was finished off by Victor Osimhen.

Speaking after the game, Adams dedicated the goal to his mother, whom he revealed was supposed to be at the stadium to watch the match.

The Sevilla striker said: “Glory to God for scoring my first AFCON goal, like many of you have been waiting for. But the goal is dedicated to my mum.

“She’s supposed to be here, but she’s in the hospital right now. She was admitted this morning, but she’s much better now.”

It could not be ascertained if Adams will return for Nigeria’s quarter-final clash against either DR Congo or Algeria on Saturday.
