The Super Eagles of Nigeria opened their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign with a 2–1 victory over Tanzania at the Complexe Sportif de Fes in Morocco on Tuesday.
The match remained goalless until the 36th minute when defender Semi Ajayi powered home a header from Alex Iwobi’s cross to give Nigeria the lead going into the break.
Tanzania drew level shortly after half-time, as midfielder Charles M’Mombwa pounced on a loose ball two minutes into the second half to make it 1–1 and pile pressure on the Super Eagles.
Nigeria, however, restored their advantage in the 55th minute through Ademola Lookman, who fired a precise left-footed strike from outside the penalty area to seal the win.
