A Federal High Court in Abuja has once again restrained the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from going ahead with its national convention slated for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State.
Justice Peter Lifu, ruling on a motion filed by former Jigawa Governor Sule Lamido on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, also prohibited the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising or recognising any outcome from the national convention.
Lamido had challenged his exclusion from the chairmanship race, arguing that the party denied him the opportunity to obtain the nomination form.
Court grants PDP approval to hold national convention in Ibadan
Justice Lifu, therefore, declared that the PDP violated its own constitution and relevant laws governing conventions by failing to publish its timetable.
Justice Lifu held that the balance of convenience favoured Lamido and cautioned that ignoring due process undermines democratic governance.
The judge therefore ordered that the PDP must not proceed with the convention in Ibadan or any other location until the issues raised are resolved.
