Airport–Kuje–Gwagwalada road projects set for commissioning in June – Wike

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has announced that the dualisation of the Airport–Kuje and Kuje–Gwagwalada roads is at an advanced stage and is expected to be commissioned in June, in celebration of President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office.

Wike disclosed this on Wednesday after inspecting the ongoing projects, noting that the Airport–Kuje road, handled by Arab Contractors, is 76% complete, while the Kuje–Gwagwalada stretch has reached nearly 65% completion.

Describing the route as a key infrastructure that will transform movement within the FCT, Wike said the road will provide motorists with an alternative route, cutting travel time and easing the heavy traffic around the airport corridor.

“I’m quite impressed. The Airport–Kuje road is very strategic for us,” Wike said, recalling his previous visit to the Kuje–Gwagwalada axis, where he commended the contractors for their performance.

“God willing, by the first week of June or the end of June, we will have inaugurated this project. It’s a very important route, so commuters won’t need to pass through the airport to get to Gwagwalada or the city centre.”

The new road network is expected to benefit residents of Kuje, Gwagwalada, and surrounding communities, supporting Wike’s broader initiative to open up satellite towns and reduce congestion in the FCT.

With June commissioning in sight, attention is now on the contractors to deliver the project, which promises to end the airport traffic bottleneck for commuters.
